ChatGPT connectors are now apps: how to add and use them
Connectors are what ChatGPT now calls apps: links to services like Google Drive, Slack, Notion or Canva that ChatGPT can read and act on. To add one, open Settings › Plugins, choose the app, select Install or Connect, and sign in. In a chat, type @ and the app's name, or pick it from the + menu.
Connectors, apps and plugins: what the names mean
If you’re looking for ChatGPT “connectors”, you’re looking for what OpenAI now calls apps. An app connects ChatGPT to a service you use, such as Google Drive, Slack, Notion or Canva, so ChatGPT can find a file, summarize a document, look up a message or take an action there.
Plugins are the packaging: a plugin can bundle one or more apps with skills that make a workflow easier. You install both from the same place.
How to connect an app in ChatGPT
- Open Settings › Plugins and select the app, or the plugin that includes it.
- Select Install plugin if you see it. This may start the app’s setup.
- If asked, select Connect and sign in to the account that has the information you want to use.
- Review the permissions, then finish the sign-in.
Very old versions of the ChatGPT phone app may say Apps instead of Plugins.
Use an app in a chat
Ask for what you want and mention the app with @, or choose it from the + menu. For example: “@Google Drive find my project brief and summarize the next steps.” ChatGPT may ask before it reads something or takes an action; read the request before approving it.
Decide what an app can do without asking
Each app has a permission setting:
- Always ask
- Allow read actions
- Allow low-risk actions
- Allow all actions, for some apps
Permissions only change when ChatGPT asks. They never give an app access it didn’t already have.
Apps worth connecting
- Work files and messages: Google Drive, SharePoint, Outlook, Slack, Notion, Box.
- Code: GitHub, GitLab.
- Design: Canva, Figma.
- Everyday: Spotify, Zillow, Booking.com and Expedia were among the first apps when they launched in October 2025.
- The web ChatGPT can’t read: Instagram, TikTok and Amazon ask ChatGPT to stay out, and it can’t play videos. Puley reads them for ChatGPT, fetches video transcripts and watches pages for changes.
What apps can see
Apps you enable can use relevant context from your conversation, and from Memory if it’s on, to answer your request. They may also see the basic information any website sees, like your approximate location. Each app’s own privacy policy applies, and you’ll see it before you connect.
Puley is an add-on for ChatGPT and Claude that reads TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and shops, fetches video transcripts and watches pages for changes.
