US and Canadian prices are before sales tax, which is added at checkout. Hong Kong has no sales tax. Every other price includes VAT or GST.

The cheapest places, with tax

The US looks cheapest, but its $1,199 has no sales tax in it. Most states add between about 4% and 10% at checkout, which takes a New York purchase to roughly $1,300. Oregon, Delaware, Montana and New Hampshire have no state sales tax, so there the price stays close to $1,199.

Counting only prices that already include tax, the cheapest is Hong Kong at about $1,338, then the UAE and Japan at about $1,390, then New Zealand and Australia. Some countries refund sales tax or VAT to visitors when they leave; the rules vary and change, so check them before you count on the saving.

Where it costs the most

Turkey (about $2,805) and Brazil (about $2,409) charge roughly double the US price, because both add large import and sales taxes to phones. India (₹164,900, about $1,709) and most of Europe sit between $1,620 and $1,710.

Before you buy one abroad

  • Check the model. Phones sold in different countries can differ. Recent US models have no SIM card slot, only eSIM, and radio bands vary by region. Make sure the model works with your carrier at home.
  • Check the warranty. Apple can limit iPhone warranty service to the country where it was sold. Read the terms for the store you’re buying from.
  • Count the duty. Bringing a phone home can mean declaring it at customs and paying duty or tax above your allowance.
  • Compare like with like. The table uses each store’s starting price for the same model. Bigger storage and the Pro Max cost more everywhere.
